Reading the map
- Peaks: the eleven major summits, from Madison in the northeast to Webster above Crawford Notch.
- Huts and shelters: the three AMC huts, two Randolph Mountain Club cabins, and the Hermit Lake Shelter below Tuckerman Ravine.
- Trailheads and access: the main starting points for hikes, plus the Cog Railway and Auto Road.
The topographic style shows trails and contour lines. Most of the ridge between Madison and Eisenhower is above treeline.
